Getting kitted out when cycling during the colder seasons can sometimes be a challenge but whatever your discipline or budget, with our autumn/winter outfit series, we’ve got you covered.

This week’s look has been selected with the quality and style requirements of the urban commuter in mind but we also made sure it’s affordable with all featured items being included in our 3 for 2 clothing offer. Check out just how good a bargain can look!

Giro Aspect Helmet

The Aspect is the perfect combination of a classic urban-style helmet (simple and stylish but often without or with very few vents) and a race-ready aero design (ultra lightweight, cool but often too techy-looking for the city), offering a sleek design but with a sophisticated ventilation system (19 vents and a fit that suspends the helmet slightly above your head) and weighing in at just 263g in a size M. Even the colour/pattern of the straps has been subject to careful design considerations, with the marl grey making for a welcome change in the otherwise monochrome world of webbing. The fit can be fine-tuned via Giro’s Roc Loc Air system and the helmet also comes equipped with a removable soft visor.

Take a look at it on our website here.

Altura Merino Long Sleeve Baselayer

UrbanCommuter_Baselayer

Merino is the ideal second skin for cooler riding conditions. Not only is the wool of the Merino breed the finest and softest and will regulate your temperature, it also has excellent moisture-wicking and odour-defying properties which makes it perfect for those urban commutes, even more so if there is a lack of shower facilities in your office! Merino usually comes at a price but this long-sleeved heather-grey version with black flat-lock seam details from Altura is also incredible value – check it out here.

Giro LS Mobility Shirt

We probably all agree that riding in a shirt, particularly if you’re thinking traditional, smart, tailored and cotton, doesn’t sound particularly comfortable but this is exactly what inspired the designers at Giro to create the Mobility Shirt. As the name suggests, it gives you plenty of freedom of movement thanks to a ride-specific cut (longer sleeves and ‘Flex Pleats’) and to the Lycra content in the fabric, yet without compromising on style.

It is available from our website in black (pictured) and China Blue. Our model (and Marketing Manager) Gareth is wearing a size M.

Giro Mobility Classic Urban Trousers

A similar thing can be said about smart trousers, usually they just don’t work well in the saddle. However, Giro’s Mobility Urban trousers, have been constructed using a durable 2-way stretch cotton twill with 3% Lycra and feature a gusetted crotch (that’s an extra diamond-shaped material insert in the crotch area for more flexibility). The trousers fasten using a button fly and another nice feature worth mentioning is the reflective seam on the lower inside legs, which will be revealed when you roll up the hem of your trousers. With this in mind the leg length has also been extended a little. They are available in Dark Shadow and Dress Blue and once again, Gareth is wearing a size M.

Take a look at them on the Evans Cycles website here.

Giro Wind Jacket

Whether for cruising on city streets or tackling alpine descents on your road bike, Giro’s wind jacket is super versatile. Made from ultra lightweight Rip-stop Nylon, it weighs next to nothing and stows away into the smallest back pocket. It’s windproof and water-resistant but never too sweaty thanks to the perforated upper back panel. The finishing details are reflective piping for visibility, a slightly offset zip to avoid too much bulk in the centre front and a stretch-elastic hem.

Available on our site in the ‘Glowing Red’ colourway featured (which, to be honest, I would rather call orange), ‘Blue Jewel’ and ‘Jet Black’ in sizes S to XXL.

Giro Rumble VR MTB Shoe

UrbanCommuter_Shoes

The Rumble VR MTB Shoe, is not just great for the trails but, again, a clever multi-use, multi-discipline design from Giro. It pretty much looks like a smart trainer (great for the office or the pub) is very lightweight (Vibram rubber outsole and synthetic mesh upper material) and offers a comfortable fit with an EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) footbed, which is a type of dense foam acting as excellent shock absorber. If you prefer riding with flat pedals (whether on or off-road) you’ll benefit from the lugged outsole for optimal traction and for those riding clipless, of course, the Rumble is also SPD-compatible with a recessed cleat zone so walkability won’t be hindered.

Additionally to the black and orange (‘Glowing Red’) in our photoshoot, these also come in Blue and Gum (=tan), check them out online.

Please note, our 3 for 2 on Autumn Essentials offer ends on Monday, 19th October. Simply use code AUT15 at checkout to activate the discount!

..and do check back here next week, which will see our final autumn/winter outfit suggestion as part of this series….
